THE NEED FOR SPIRITUAL FOOD:- Evermore, give us this bread!

ST. John 6:33-34, (For the bread of God is he which cometh down from Heaven, and giveth life unto the world. Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore, give us this bread!).

Man shall not live by bread alone.

The equilibrium of our human existence lies in the two-fold aspect of balance in both our natural and spiritual lives. That’s why the Bible says in:-

Deuteronomy 8:3, (And he humbled thee, suffered thee to hunger, and fed thee with Man’-na, which thou knewest not, neither did thy fathers know; that he might make thee know that man doth not live by bread only, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of the Lord doth man live.)

Just as much as the natural part of us need the natural food for the building up, strengthening and proper functioning of our bodies, the spiritual part of us need food too. However, the spirit man can not eat natural food, he/she needs spiritual food which is the word of God.

Jesus said he is the bread of life which came down from Heaven, as the word of God that became flesh. God is a Spirit being and our relationship with him is first spiritual, since we came out of him from creation. If a man who is first a spiritual being by the creativity of God, eats of the word from the mouth of the source of his creation(God) which is spirit, truth and life, he shall not die.

This is a fact based on the reality that our relationship with God is first spiritual and then manifests in the natural.

Jesus gave his own body.

The bread that Jesus gave was his body when it was broken in death being crucified on the cross. By this way, the people of the world who accepts his gift of salvation may live forever, being pardoned from a life of sin. Jesus was both a sacrificial lamb to the slaughter and the conquering lion from the tribe of Judah. As the lamb of God he satisfied the judgment of God’s justice on sin.

The sins of the world being laid upon him, in his death God’s justice was met, because the wages of sin is death. However, at his resurrection, Jesus triumphed over sin, death and the grave as the conquering lion from the tribe of Judah. God, having raised him up from the dead that all who comes to him by faith and willingly allows him to transform their lives.

They will have the privilege of being translated from being dead in trespasses and sin (a type of death which means spiritual disconnection from God) unto everlasting life. This everlasting life includes the abundance of the one we are currently living on Earth and the promise of eternal life to come.

To a child of God, death has lost its sting and has only become a means of transition from time into eternity to begin his/her eternal existence in the presence of God.

God designed us to worship him.

When God made man, he placed within him a spirit of worship. Man was designed with an unction to worship in satisfactory fulfillment only the living God, being made in his own image and likeness. We were divinely designed that way because everything God created in love and adoration of his handy work, reciprocates that love and adoration back to him through their existence.

The heavens declare the glory of God and the firmament shows his handy works.

Especially humanity, being credited as God’s prize creation. In a sense you could say that God wired us to be complete only in him, and when people reject God and does not worship him. They struggle to reach the full completion of their existence as they try in vain to fill an empty void with other things, that only a relationship with God can fill.

That is why so many people try drugs, alcohol or other temporary fixes that produces happiness for the moment, but never a lasting joy. This is in efforts to fill that empty void within them, and they sometimes search for love in the wrong places. Yes!, there are lots of relationships and marriages that work and are blessed by the grace of God.

I can not deny that, but notice I said that they work by the grace of God, because God blesses marriages as they remind him of the union between himself and his church.

People all over the world and through the eons of time until now have been worshiping in different kinds of religions and various types of gods and are by their free will of choice, entitled to do so. However, I believe that most of them are in an effort to find their sense of purpose and to fill that hole within their inner-man, that was meant for only the true and living God who created us and put that desire there in the first place to fill.

Man was never designed to worship anything that he created with his own hands, or anyone that is less than his own creator. The whole duty of man is to worship God, and manage God’s resources in the Earth with dominion, power and authority.

Only the bread of life can satisfy us.

Evermore! give us this bread!

Some people become workaholics, some become addicted to food and suffer obesity. Others choose alcohol, drugs or cigarettes as their favorite high. For some it is sex or music over indulgence, they become consumed with materialism, vanity, fortune and fame driven.

Most of which is done in an attempt to find a sense of worth and belonging, that as a person you matter in this world. It is hurtful to see people losing their sense of purpose because they lost their identity. If you lose your identity you will malfunction and fail to maximize your true potential in God, which is to walk in victory, power and success.

Having dominion and authority over the works of God’s hands as his prize creation. According to his divine power he has given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, having called us unto glory and virtue through Christ Jesus. That’s why only Jesus can complete us and give us our sense of worth and purpose.

Only the bread of life can satisfy us, because human beings were created to be filled with God’s Spirit. When God is not at the center of their lives and ordering their steps in his word while they follow, they will desperately seek to fill that space with something or someone else.

God designed us in love to only be complete in him for our spiritual satisfaction and by his grace and mercy through trust and faith, he helps us find a compatible physical partner for our natural satisfaction. After all, when God made man. He himself said it was not good for the man to be alone.

Of course the man was not alone spiritually because he had an intense relationship with God, but physically God was not going to warm him up at nights. Giving him physical inter-relations (you know what I mean?) as was necessary for his human existence, he required a mate. So here comes Eve.

In the cradle of his love.

God designed us in love to live, move, breathe and have our being in him, (Acts 17:28;(“For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain also of your own poets have said, “For we are also his offspring”).

After we have eaten of the bread of his word and are full, by application of it. Sin which is more than a single offense, an ongoing pattern and lifestyle, shall no longer have dominion over us.

Before Jesus saved us by making salvation possible with his crucifixion, and before we accept him into our hearts we were slaves to our sins with no way to break the chains. When we accept him, he broke every chain and fetters but sometimes we may still stumble and fall occasionally.

We sometimes even bruise our spiritual knees from the fall, but we can rise again because for the Christian, where sin once sat and reign on the throne of their lives unchallenged. Jesus now sits as Lord and King, bringing joy unspeakable and full of glory that the world couldn’t give and the world can’t take away.

Psalm 37:23-24, (“The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way. Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the Lord upholdeth him with his hand.”)

Romans 6:12 says, (“Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.”)

This does not mean that genuine Christians will not make mistakes. The Apostle John wrote in the second chapter of his first letter to the early church saying, “My little children, these things write I unto you that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate (Lawyer) with the father, Jesus Christ the righteous.

What an awesome God!

For his fallen creation he made Jesus our mediator to re-establish the connection with him. Then as his children through regeneration he made Jesus our advocate, that we can stand before him as the supreme judge, not in our own righteousness but in the righteousness of God through Christ Jesus.

OUR ADVOCATE:- Jesus Christ the righteous.

This means that our first priority is to abstain from sin, but if we fall, Jesus the bread of life and our advocate will step in as we repent and his blood plead our case before God in our favor. He supports us to get back up and start again because he has already paid the price for our sins.

That is why he is the bread of eternal life and we need his word as our spiritual food. Jesus came to give us life and freedom from the bondage of eternal death in separation from God. He said the thief (the devil) came to steal, kill and to destroy, but he came to give us life and for us to have it more abundantly.

Watch my exhortation video from my YouTube channel, ‘Word Food Time’ below:-

He sets us free from the filthy, unrighteous death rags that imprisoned us, and he covers us with the pure sinless robe of his own righteousness. Under the wings of his spotless blood we can trust and be justified. That is why evermore, we need this bread and will not settle for crumbs anymore. We want the whole loaf.

HAVE A HEALTHY SPIRITUAL LIFE :- Being led by the Spirit of God.

Being at the place you were designed for.

(Genesis 3:8-9)

And they heard the voice of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day: and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God amongst the trees of the garden. And the Lord God called unto Adam, and said unto him, “Where art thou?.”

The word of God tells us that the Lord called unto Adam and said, “Where art thou? ” and usually when God asks a question, it is not that he doesn’t know the answer already. God has perfect foreknowledge, but it’s for the individual to consider their circumstances and question themselves as to the reason why they are not at the place in God, they were designed to be.

He asked Elijah, “What are you doing under this Juniper Tree?” It’s not that God didn’t know what he was doing there. He wanted Elijah to know that he was not at the place he was supposed to be. Why would he be running from Jezebel? Fearing for his life, when God called him to serve a purpose.

God called him to do a job and will not leave him alone until the purpose has been fulfilled and a successor has been left in his stead.

(Back to Adam) :- The question was asked of him by God, for him to realize the reason of his dislocation from his spiritual connection with God. Disobedience, guilt and fear caused him to hide, but God doesn’t want us to hide from him if we fail. It is no surprise to him when we fail, but he wants us to run to him, so he can restore us.

We get to see the Glory of God.

The man or woman of God being led by the Spirit must be in unity with the Spirit. Putting aside every weight and the sin that so easily beset us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. It is never easy to put our flesh under subjection to the leading of the Spirit. Yet it is quite necessary for the Glory of God to be revealed.

Jesus had to put his flesh and his will under subjection that the glory and the will of the father might take preeminence. This is an example of the kind of attitude we must have as believers, to be at the place we were designed to be. There is a place in God that he has desired and ordained for us to be, and when we are not there he is asking us, “Where are we?”

In (Exodus 33:18) Moses asked God to show him his glory. God’s response was, “There’ is a place by me, where I will hide you in a cleft of the rock and cover you ‘There‘ with my hands while my glory pass by. That you may not be consumed, for no man shall see my face and live.”

What was God saying here? he was simply saying that for his glory to be revealed, flesh has to be out of the way. A spiritual life being led by the Spirit of God is a healthy one, because it glorifies God and puts us at the place by him. Unfortunately not many of us are at the place, so God is still asking, “Where art thou?”

Where are the people that are supposed to be in church and a part of the body of Christ? Are you somewhere in the city clubbing when you should be churching? Are you hooked up on drugs, lost in a world of darkness, when you are supposed to be the light of the world and the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus?

Why don’t you have a healthy spiritual life?

Know your place in God, and if you are not at the place, get to the place by him, the place called ‘There‘. Press towards the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. That you may know what is the hope of his calling, which is his will for your life.

Know what is your true purpose and destiny, walk in it and maximize it, because when you get ‘There’ it is a place of spiritual maturity. A place where you manifest a healthy spiritual life because God will be ‘There’ to show you his glory, as it is a place by him. He will release you to the world to be a witness for him, that they will know that you had been in the presence of God. They will see Christ in you.

Moses had to cover his face with a veil when he came down the mountain from the presence of God, not that he was hiding, but the after-glow from the glory of God was resonating on his face.

Those in the house-hold of faith :-

Then there those in the house of God, the house hold of faith who are not where they are supposed to be in terms of operation. Instead of operating in the office God chose them to operate in so they can be most effective, they find themselves out of order and all over the place.

Sometimes they are in somebody else’s office where unto they were not called and it becomes of none effect to the body of Christ. As men and women of God we have to walk in sync with the Spirit of God that we can know when he shifts, because just as the Glory cloud stays and moves progressively over the camp of Israel in the wilderness.

God stays and moves at his own will and we have to be at the place in God where we can see further and hear clearer, as watch men/women on the wall. This will give us the ability to know when he has shifted so we can shift with the glory and therefore we won’t be out of place.

See my edifying exhortation video below:-

Are you in Christ, where you are supposed to be? Even if you are, are you at the progressive level or position where God wants you to be? These are questions for us to ask ourselves. Disobedience and our failures in life due to the weakness of flesh, may cause short comings and make us want to hide. However, we do have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous.

He is such a high priest after the order of Melchizedek, who can be touched with the feelings of our infirmities. He can identify with the struggles of our bodies, soul and especially our spirit, because his relationship with us is first spiritual. He is willing and ready to help us get to the place called ‘There’, a healthy spiritual life that is being led by his Spirit.

God will be strong for me.

(2nd Corinth. 12:9) ” And he said unto me, “My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.” Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”

In this road of life, nothing is easy. The believer and the unbeliever faces hardship alike. However, because of their special relationship with God, every believer has been impacted supernaturally with the ability to overcome their struggles. It is called the ‘Spirit of Might‘, the ability to perform.

The Bible said, “And we know that all things work together for good, to them that love God and are the called according to his purpose.” It is God who is working in us to will and to do of his good pleasure in leading us by his Spirit. He is in so much control that we can say, whatever comes our way, we know to give him thanks.

Therefore, beloved, whether in good times or bad, happiness or sad, everyone of us came out of eternity into time with an assignment from God to fulfill. So it is up to us, to decide if we are going through life ignorant of God’s plan for us, or are we opening our hearts and ears to hear the sound of his call to the glory move.

His will and promises for us are written in his word. What God said we can have is already given to us, but how many of us are claiming our God given inheritance. Some of which are as follows:-

He gives us peace in the midst of the storm. God said, ” My peace I give unto you, not like the world gives, but my peace surpasses all understanding.”

JOY :-

Joy unspeakable and full of glory.

Supernaturally, for when you are weak, God will be strong for you.

Life in abundance includes life which now is and more so, of that which is to come. For we are blessed with the hope of a better resurrection in Christ Jesus to receive a new body, glorified in the Heavens on which the second death has no power, no victory, no stamina and no sting.

He promises as he leads.

See more from my post here:- The Doctrine of the Holy Ghost

All the things listed above and much more God promises for us and are characteristics of a healthy spiritual life being led by his spirit. They have been given to us already through Christ Jesus. Claim it, live it and walk in it, be victorious and not afraid, because when you hit a bump on the road and stumble due to weakness.

God is asking, “Where are you? Get up! Dust yourself off and move on again, for his grace is sufficient for you and for me. When I am weak, God will be strong for me. I will look to the hills from whence cometh my help, for God shall supply all my needs according to his riches in Glory, even by Christ Jesus.

Please be encouraged, and when life throws you a curve ball, keep your attitude towards God positive and learn from it. There is always a lesson to be learned from our experiences.

Be blessed and highly favored of the Lord!

THE DOCTRINE OF THE HOLY GHOST:- Moving you to spiritual health

He has been working from the beginning of time

The Holy Ghost has always been in existence and his ministry throughout the Old and New Testament era is evident. He is God himself in action because God is not just ‘Spirit’ in his essence of divine being, but a ‘Holy Spirit’. In the Old Testament he is often referred to inter-changeably as, ‘The Spirit of God’ or the ‘Spirit of The Lord’ (Gen.1:2), “And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters”.

(Judges 3:10) “And the Spirit of The Lord came upon him, and he judged Israel, and went out to war”. The ‘Holy Spirit/Holy Ghost’ can be used inter-changeably in the doctrine of the Holy Ghost when dealing with his actions in the New Testament times which we are still living in today. (Acts 5:3) “Then Peter said, “Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost? Thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God”.

The Holy Ghost should never be referred to as an ‘It’.

He must never be considered as just a blessing, a feeling, an energy or an influence. The Holy Ghost is a person, he is God in Spirit form, the essence of his being in action or Jesus’ other self in expanded form, who is alive and real. In view of the properties of his personality such as intelligence, mind, will, emotions, reason, individuality and self-consciousness you can offend the Holy Ghost.

Don’t do it!!

His general operation is to originate, maintain, strengthen and guide all life organic, intellectual, spiritual and natural. He does this in different ways and in harmony with the object concerned in every area of life. He is the supreme life and every other living organism whether microscopic or mega-scopic originates from him.

The redemptive work of the Holy Ghost involves his regeneration of new life, sanctifying it, guiding it and bringing that new life into maturity of godliness and development until it’s purpose and destiny is realized. This renewal enables man to give spiritual obedience to God and to be the salt of the Earth, leading others to Christ as the light of the world.

He searches all things, even the deep things of God.

He convicts, heals, reveals and searches all things, yea, even the deep things of God and make manifest of his glory (1st Corinth. 2:10-16). He intercedes for the believers, he is a helper ‘Parakletosanother name for him in Greek terminology, it means to walk alongside. He teaches (1st Corinth. 2:13), the writers of the New Testament were moved by the Spirit to remember and understand the instructions Jesus gave for the building and organization of the Church.

He also enabled them to understand the doctrines regarding himself, the directives for holy living and the revelation of things to come. Some contents of his works are as follows:-

  • He comforts
    He brings renewal
  • He offers hope an assurance
  • He restores
  • He cleanses, sanctifies and justifies
  • He restrains evil
  • He brings all things to your memory (John 14:26).

He discerns, leads, guides and is an avenger of the righteous. He is the source of revelation (John 16:13-15) “But when He, the ‘Spirit of Truth’ comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on his own initiative, but whatever He hears He will speak; and he will disclose to you what is to come.

David said in Psalm 23:3, “He restoreth my soul”.

Given to him in respect of the functions or aspects of his ministry.

Some personal titles bestowed upon him are, ‘Wonderful’, ‘Counselor’, ‘Mighty God‘ (Isaiah. 11:2). Other descriptions of the various aspects of his ministry can be noted as follows :-

  • He is a deposit/foretaste of glory divine, the seal of the ‘Spirit of Promise’, the earnest of the Spirit :- (2 Corinth.1:22; 5:5) The Holy Spirit is God’s seal upon his people, his claim upon his believers as his very own. The gift of the Spirit is a down payment on the believer’s heavenly inheritance which Christ has promised them and secured for them on the cross. It is because the Spirit has sealed us why we are assured of our salvation. No one can break the seal of God.
  • The in dweller of believers :- The Holy Spirit resides in the heart of God’s people and that indwelling is the distinguishing characteristics of the regenerated person. From within the believers he guides, directs, comforts and influences them as well as producing in them the fruit of the Spirit (Gal. 5:22-23). He provides the intimate connection between God and his children.

The Spirit of Life :- (Rom. 8:2) The phrase ‘Spirit of Life’ means the Holy Spirit is the one who gives or produces life. Not only does he initiate salvation but he also imparts newness of life. when we receive eternal life through Christ, the Spirit provides the spiritual food which is the sustenance of the spiritual life. Salvation is sustained by the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit therefore appears to be the agency through which God often worked. We understand that when we talk about ‘God’ we are referring to who he is. His essence of being, his nature, his characteristics as the creator of all life. when talking about the ‘Holy Spirit’ we are referring to this same God in active ministry. He is the only divine supreme being that embodies the complete essence of the nature of holiness.

Angelic creatures fly around his throne crying, “Holy! Holy! Holy! is the Lord, the whole Earth is full of his Glory”. It is by the moving or actions of his Spirit that he uses men to reveal his plan and his word (e.g. the prophets). The prophets were men inspired or motivated by the breath of the Spirit of God. They spoke his word fore telling and forth telling the course of action God is currently taking concerning the present and future condition of his people, while under his empowerment.

The prophets represent God to the people While the priests represent the people to God. When men spoke in the spirit, it simply means God super-imposed his trend of thought through them so that the words they spoke were clearly, ‘The word of the Lord’, they could not interject their own thoughts into it. In which case the word would not be pure, but contaminated.

CONCLUSION :- The empowering presence of the Holy Ghost.

By the grace of God, the empowering presence of the Holy Ghost comes in the believer’s life to endow that individual with power from on high. They are now able to fight the good fight of faith and to lay hold on eternal life. They now have the capacity to live a life that is led by the Spirit. In victory, power and success they can study the word of God and understand the doctrine of the Holy Ghost, which when they apply, they will experience the true power of having a healthy spiritual lifestyle.
